Introduction

When Honeywell's High Growth Region needed an updated executive portrait for Steve, President of the region, the brief was clear: the image had to look like Honeywell — not just a photograph of a person. GM Studio was engaged to deliver a corporate headshot that respected Honeywell's brand guidelines while still feeling authentic and human. The result was a session built on planning, not improvisation.

Planning Before the Shutter

Great corporate headshots are decided weeks before the camera turns on. We began with Honeywell's brand guidelines: approved color palettes, background tones, framing standards, and the corporate look that every executive image must share across global communications. From there we built a shot list, a lighting plan, a wardrobe brief, and a location schedule — all signed off by Steve's team before the shoot day. Nothing was left to chance on set.

Location: The Office as Backdrop

Instead of a sterile studio, we shot inside Honeywell's own offices. The glass, steel, and natural daylight of the high-rise workspace became part of the story — placing Steve in the environment where he actually leads. We scouted sightlines, window angles, and background depth in advance, ensuring every frame carried the corporate context without visual clutter or distracting elements.

Lighting: Mixing Flash with Ambient

The challenge of an office location is controlling mixed light. We combined a soft, flattering key light with the ambient daylight pouring through the windows, balancing color temperature so Steve's skin tones stayed natural while the background retained its airy, professional glow. Shadows were kept gentle and directional — present enough to add dimension, never harsh enough to feel staged.

A corporate headshot should feel effortless to the viewer and anything but effortless to produce.

Wardrobe: Dressing the Brand

Steve's wardrobe was selected against Honeywell's brand palette: a navy blazer over a blue-and-white striped shirt, projecting authority without stiffness. We advised on fit, texture, and how each option would read on camera under the mixed lighting. The final choices complemented the office environment and kept the focus on his expression — confident, approachable, and unmistakably executive.

Conclusion

Brand-compliant headshots are not about rigid templates; they are about translating guidelines into a living portrait. By planning ahead, respecting Honeywell's standards, and blending controlled lighting with the natural character of the office, GM Studio delivered a set of executive portraits Steve and his team can deploy with confidence across every channel. Consistency, in the end, is what makes a leader recognizable.
